As
the fuel-air mixture is burnt, the exhaust stroke pushes the gasses
into the exhaust manifolds.
The
manifolds are bolted to each head, directing the gasses into the engine
Y pipe.
From there the gasses flow through the intermediate pipe, to a pipe curved
around the rear end, to the muffler. The flow continues from the muffler,
through the tailpipe, into the atmosphere.
Clamps and hangers hold the pipes in place.
