Compression Ratio:

The compression ratio is the difference between the volume in one cylinder at bottom dead center (BDC),to the volume at top dead center (TDC).
Example: If a cylinder had a 50 cu. in. volume at BDC and a 5 cu. in. volume at TDC. You would have compressed that volume 10 times (10:1). 50/5=10
