Valve cover:

The valve cover conceals the rocker arms and valve heads.

It is made from stamped steel and is bolted to the top of the head. On a V8 engine there are two of them. The left one has a cap for adding oil. The right one has an opening for a breather tube that connects to the air cleaner. A cork valve cover gasket prevents the oil that lubricates the top of the valves from leaking out.
